Falcon Communication's CEO to aid Hurricane Katrina victims

Manassas, Virginia,  September 2, 2005 - A Manassas couple are on their way to the Gulf Coast to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina; Creston Owen, CEO of Falcon Communications Solutions Inc, and his wife Sharon left Tuesday and reached their destination Thursday afternoon.  

"We have been working with the Prince William Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Christians for Disaster Recovery to see what area they would like for us to begin helping washed out families. We would like to concentrate our efforts in some rural devastated area in Mississippi, rather than a big city such as New Orleans," said Creston Owen in a conference call from his rig Thursday.

The couple's en route itinerary includes a stop in Chattanooga, Tenn. to purchase three tons of bottled water and boxes of toiletry kits from the local Wal-Mart store. The couple's mission is to assist approximately 100 of the families impacted by the disaster. Owen said he is willing to help in any way he can, and that after his initial load is gone, he will reload.

The trip was inspired in part by televison coverage of the disaster area, as well as the news of friend Otto Merghot's business being destroyed in the flood. "It's just not in me and Sharon to sit idly by and not offer our help. I left my business in capable hands of my employees and will stay as long as I'm needed. If I can help even a few families get help, then the journey will be worth it," said Owen.

While Owen has the support of the Manassas Rotary Club, of which he is a member, he is financing the trip entirely by himself. When asked how he hopes others will be inspired by his efforts, Owen requests that they pray, offer help to the Red Cross or Salvation Army, and make a monetary donation. "There are thousands and thousands of families who will need our help for months and months to come," he said.
